Christianity Explored is an exploration of Mark’s gospel that asks three crucial questions about Jesus and provides time for guests to ask whatever questions they may have about Christianity. The three questions CE asks are, “who is Jesus?” “why did He come?” and “what does it mean to follow him?” Some of the most commonly asked questions from participants are “how can a good God allow so much suffering?” “is the Bible reliable?” “did Jesus really claim to be God?” “does evolution fit with the Bible?” and “what separates this congregation and denomination from others?”
What distinguishes CE from other courses is not only the focus on question and answer but the unique rules under which it operates. For example, the first rule of CE is “You’ll never be asked to sing, pray, or read out loud.” The desire behind this and the other rules (like “respect everyone” and “maintain trust”) is to create a place where anyone, no matter their background, can feel comfortable attending and, if they desire, participating.
CE is a great place for those new to Christianity, those new to our church, or those who’ve simply been away from a church for a while. Since it is rooted in the book of Mark and centers on the person and work of Jesus, CE is also a great place to be renewed and encouraged as a Christian. CE meets on Sunday Mornings during the Sunday School hour (9:30-10:30AM) in the Library Room (first room on the right if you come through the green awning), and is led by Pastor Knott. Please contact Pastor Knott if you have any questions about CE. Visit Christianity Explored on the web (christianityexplored.org) to learn more about the course, listen to Q & A, and hear from those who’ve taken the course.
A new quarter of Christianity Explored began Dec. 8th, no commitment is required, and participants may jump in and out at any time.
